Bringers of Joy Education Centre, founded in 2004, is dedicated to supporting vulnerable children in the Mathare slums, enabling them to access quality education despite challenging circumstances. Established by a group of local women, this non-profit organization saw the urgent need for educational resources for children affected by extreme poverty and the HIV/AIDS epidemic, which left many children orphaned. Recognizing that these children were often unable to attend school due to a lack of essential resources—such as school fees, uniforms, and books—the center was created to fill this gap.
To help increase school attendance and bring hope and happiness to the children, Bringers of Joy Education Centre introduced a feeding program. This initiative provides nutritious meals, creating a safe, welcoming environment that encourages children to come to school and stay engaged in their studies. Today, the center serves as a beacon of opportunity within the Mathare North slum, focused on breaking the cycle of poverty through comprehensive support. By providing access to clean water, prioritizing health and wellness, and delivering an inclusive education, Bringers of Joy Education Centre continues to empower Mathare’s children, giving them a brighter future.
The center upholds key pillars such as ending poverty, improving health, and ensuring sustainable development through education. Bringers of Joy Education Centre is not just a school; it’s a lifeline for many children, offering the resources and support they need to thrive. This initiative exemplifies how community-driven action can make a transformative difference in the lives of disadvantaged children, helping to create a better tomorrow for the next generation.
